Mash Hits # 57 – Music for Teletubbies

This is a Eno/Satie esq. reworking of one of the strangest songs to get to no 1. According to wikipedia “Teletubbies say “Eh-oh!”‘ is a hit single which was number one in the UK Singles Chart for two weeks in December 1997. It remained in the Top 75 for 29 weeks after its first release and three weeks more after two re-releases and sold well enough to be certified as double-platinum”

Mash Hits # 55 – Bonehead’s Laboratory

Deep in Manchester, Bonehead is working on a maniacal experiment to stitch liam’s penis to noels hand so he can play even better guitar solo’s. Jokes aside, after tinkering and experimenting with Oasis’s first no 1 until it was unrecognizable it made me imagine some kinda laboratory setting, bubbling, hums and clunks etc .. the results are fairly pleasant on the ear and on a minimal tip.

Mash Hits # 53 – Pppuy vole

This is a warped & feedback laden reworking of Donny Osmond’s hit song.
Song Fact from http://www.songfacts.com/ : While the Donny Osmond version was popular, radio station KOB (now KKOB), Albuquerque, played a version that featured a background bed recorded at the dog pound!

Mash Hits # 52 – Requiem for Heather Trott

This week on Eastenders, fictional launderette worker, bride to be and the only person to have free crisps for life at the queen vic, Heather Trott was murdered by Ben Mitchell. After she got whacked on the head by Ben, she fell over knocking the record player needle and causing her wham record to get stuck on a loop, this got me thinking .. Heather was a massive George Michael fan so maybe it’s only right to make a sullen remix of ‘Jesus to a child’ in her memory.

Mash Hits # 51 – Boys in Bermuda

Boyzone really do blow, it’s music to complain about, first and foremost it is unoriginal musical waste. Not that other boy bands aren’t it’s just for some reason Boyzone particular bug me.. There shite polluted the tv and radio so badly in it’s heyday ..  It’s fucking annoying to work with but i have to address it. Here i have recycled boyzone into a uplifting  mysterious track with some added Gary Barlow for good luck..

Mash Hits # 50 – Pure and Evil (Dub)

In 2001 The reality tv show ‘Pop Stars’ debut’d on ITV and Judge Nigel Lythgoe (idiot) chose a ‘thrown together in a bit of a hurry’ 5 piece band called Hear’say’ as the series winners, i don’t expect you to remember them because they really are not rememberable. Hear’say had two uk no 1 singles and split after 18 months citing hatred from the public for the reason to disband (yeah that’s a good enough reason!)

The only good thing about there first no 1 ‘Pure and Simple’ is it has a very useable breakbeat at the start of the song, so for my version ‘Pure and Evil (Dub)’ I have taken the opening beat and fucked it up car crash style with distortion and time warping .. the dub siren was made simply by sampling and looping 1 second of the track into ableton live’s simpler and tweaking the lfo ..

Mash Hits # 49 – Maurice Gibb’s & Sean Paul’s Excellent Adventure

seven minutes ago… we, your forefathers, were brought forth upon a most excellent adventure conceived by our new friends, Maurice… and Sean. These two great gentlemen are dedicated to a proposition which was true in my time, just as it’s true today. Be excellent to each other. And… PARTY ON, DUDES!
