Mash Hits # 114 – Bring me to Life

Was gonna fold the loops into each other here to make for seamless sound but in the end it sounded nicer as a brash loop.

Back to the shack!

e

Heya .. Glad to be back home with the family after the small uk ‘Spiritual Underpants’ tour. Good to have a rave and play with my huge midi penis live. Real sorry the colchester gig did not happen, something went wrong with the venue the day before which left lovelove in the shit and in the end it had to be cancelled. The Bangface Boat Party was a great last gig to do and i immensely enjoyed playing Happy Hardcore 50 meters from the millenium dome floating in the thames. Not sure when i’m next playing a show as having a bit of a break for the summer + back too doing my plunderphonics project ‘Mash Hits’ now. Bit behind in quotas of # 1′s used as on tour it was harder to keep up with workload so now i’m home and rested expect an influx of entries from now till November. More News and Release’s coming soon x HS

Mash Hits # 112 – Sham

One month ago, suspected tax dodger and Take That member, Gary Barlow OBE went on a commissioned mission to make the perfect song for the queen’s silver jubilee. For the televised story of the song’s creation ‘Gary Barlow: On Her Majesty‚Äôs Service’ He traveled through former colonized countries, Kenya, Jamaica, Australia and the Solomon Islands with a macbook, prison stubble on face and audio recorder in hand. He sampled various folk such as school children, tribes, Slum Drummers, some posh ginger kid and an aboriginal singer. Perhaps he thought traveling about sampling musicians from countries which Great Britain invaded would make for heartwarming TV but this was a sham. In theory if handled by the right person this sampling holiday had the potential to be fairly interesting (I was imagining some kinda far out tribal sound). Unfortunately what came out was predictable tosh as bland as Riveta. And as far as the world music influence, it was not audible and may as well not have been there.

What with all the post production, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s bad influence, additional session musicians & supplementary singers taking centre stage over the handful of field recordings he collected, the end product was a middle of the road, naff charity pop single with a couple of pipe drum sounds badly placed in the mix. Even the queen looked underwhelmed as she listened possibly expecting something more like Pierre Schaeffer or les baxter

Here’s what i would have recorded instead. Firstly I would burn a billion pounds, speed this sound up and turn it into a hihat. Then I would kick a butler on the butt, EQ it and turn it into a kick drum. Then, throw a cricket ball at Philip’s head and use that sound as a snare. The synth sounds will be created by slaughtering a corgi with a spade. And lastly, I’d give Prince charles some LSD and make him watch every episode of ‘the Bill’ then force him to rap. It would have made great TV and a highly charged conceptual Song!

Mash Hits # 111 – Westlife Comedown

In this project i always find it therapeutic to turn songs i despise into ambient drones or harsh noise, It’s clever recycling at the core. Although judging by sales there are millions of psychical and digital copies of westlife’s anthem ‘You Raise me up’ about so it’s a shame when i press ‘render’ on my laptop that it doesn’t turn every copy of this song in the world into what i made it into. Anyhow it’s a inoffensive ambient work that drifts pass like the first spin of a washing machine.

Mash Hits # 106 – Sacrifice / Healing Hands (Live at Spirit of Gravity)

This track was performed live on 7/6/12 at The Green Door Store, Brighton, UK. The gig itself was great, Timothy Didymus performed using motorized resonating wine glass’s and synthesizers & ZPG made some nice live broken beat and processed field recording experiments. I do not feel my performance went so well or was so sonicly or visual rememberable. i blame using a laptop to perform on and more so having a raver in audience, who was off his head on something, deciding to come up and interrupt me half way through a tender live ambient reworking of Doris Day’s ‘Secret’ to tell me to play ‘Something Harder!’ .. Either way it was an interesting experience and glad i tried it.

Out of the 4 tracks i performed i decided that only the first track was worthy to add to mash hits, It’s a very harsh Elton John Remix! Enjoy. ps. thanks Geoff Cheesemaster for recording this!
