Mash Hits # 148 – Don’t Speak & Spell

Circuit bent No doubt remix. To make the track sound circuit bent i used the most simple of process’s .. i imported the song to a very basic sampler, drew in some nonsensical midi patterns and maniacally automated the the start point

Mash Hits # 146 – Repaint it black

This is an adapted version of the rolling stone’s ‘Paint it black’ .. Mick Jagger said of this song “That was the time of lots of acid. It has sitars on it. It’s like the beginnings of miserable psychedelia. That’s what the Rolling Stones started – maybe we should have a revival of that.”

Mash Hits # 145 – Miscommunication

Picture the aftermath of a dispute between Ozzy Osbourne, Kelly Osbourne & Cilla Black. It’s all calmed down and Cilla is staring emptily into the mirror, a tear running down her cheek.

Mash Hits # 144 – Yellow submarine

Over the last 7 months i have tried relentlessly to make a decent yellow submarine bootleg. I tried pairing it with Rage against the machine’s unlikely #1 ‘Killing in the name of’, pumping club anthem ‘Loca People’, Jive Bunny and of course Vengaboys’s ‘Boom boom boom’ .. Nothing worked and i ended up disliking the song even more than i did when i started.

Just when I thought all hope was gone something clicked when i tried to remix the song with a nautical/fishy/marine feeling to it. What i ended up with was not necessarily nice to listen to but worked on a basic conceptual level in my mind.

Mash Hits # 143 – Everlasting gloves

This is a short and odd reworking of the 1968 hit ‘Everlasting love’ by Love Affair .. Everlasting love received bad press at the time of release as Love Affair used session musicians rather than the band itself on their version.

Mash Hits # 141 – How to be a complete Calvin Harris

Ah fuck i hate the hits of this century. Total crap. I mean i am biast as the songs of the 80′s and 90′s are very nostalgic to me and i love a lot of them (or at least see some good in them). Meanwhile the songs of the 50′s and 60′s my parents always played when i was growing up and i always enjoyed the vibe of rock’n'roll. the 70′s is a bit of a mixed bag great silly stuff, disco and reggae and it’s fair share of glam rock and ballads . Nowadays quasi-cool prats like Calvin harris go leaving there virtual musical turds all over the place, esp in the #1 spot in the british charts. Like a dustman i have to dispose of them in whatever way i can. Today two fucking grating unenjoyable songs get disposed of in a little homage to one of my favourite spectrum computer games.

Mash Hits # 140 – Electronic Ticket

This Mash Hits was made on my Megabus journey from paris to London. I had an hour and 20 minutes battery on my laptop. I sourced a basic drum kit from sampling percussion hits from four # 1′s and then sampled Kylie to make some synth sounds, a few other parts were sampled from Pet shop boys and Deniece Williams and the vocal hook was from the Eurythmics song ‘There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)’

Using only samples and/or parts of the following British No 1 singles.
Pet Shop Boys ‘West End Girls (11/1/1986)
Eurythmics – There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart) (27/7/1985)

Kylie Minogue – Slow (15/11/2003)
Tommy Roe – Dizzy (4/6/1969)
