Mash Hits # 191 – Concrete and Clay

After a failed attempt at making Pakistani Moombahton music last night i decided to make whatever came to mind this morning. Hard yet tender ‘Concrete and Clay’ is pretty decent considering what it is made from. All the percusion is generated from Girls Aloud Vs. Sugababes & Bee Gees (with a lot of resampling going on) and the synth’s are sourced from Abba and Police.

Made entirely from samples and/or parts of the following British No 1 singles.
Bee Gees – You Win Again (17/10/1987)
Sugababes Vs Girls Aloud – Walk This Way (24/03/07)
Abba – Take A Chance On Me (18/2/1978)
Police – Don’t Stand So Close To Me (27/9/1980)

Mash Hits # 189 – The Ghost of Robbie Williams

This loopy musical interlude stemmed from downloading a faulty mp3 file of ‘Eternity’, it was a bit glitchy and thus was useful for me .. i simply looped the intro which i enjoyed hearing repeated and then added a little looped part that jelled nicely from Peter Kay’s ‘Children In Need Medley’

Robbie Williams – Eternity/The Road To Mandalay (21/7/2001)

Mash Hits # 187 – Nipple Rock

Another genre suggestion for me to make was made by facebook user Nick Headland. He suggested ‘Nipple Rock’ .. As i am the first (to my knowledge) to make ‘Nipple rock’ i guess no one can say it isn’t ‘Nipple rock’ ..

To create this piece i spectrally froze Christina Aguilera (i liked writing that line), sampled a saucy couple of seconds of ex neighbors star Holly Valance and folded two sparse passages of Iron maiden’s ‘Bring Your Daughter…To The Slaughter’

Note : Iron maiden’s ‘Bring Your Daughter…To The Slaughter’ was one of the worst selling #1′s of all time, people were broke after xmas 1991 i guess.

Bruce Dickinson said “We’re going to release this as a single on Christmas Eve to scare the living daylights out of Cliff Richard”.

Christina Aguilera – Beautiful (8/3/2003)
Holly Valance – Kiss Kiss (11/5/2002)

Mash Hits # 186 – Black Cocker

So i asked the Internet community on facebook for suggestions for genre’s of music to do for my next mash hits entries. The suggestions were incredible, i was expecting people to say normal stuff like ‘Trance’ or ‘Ragga’ or ‘Calypso’ instead i got one’s like ‘Megatron meets Magma’, ‘steve hackett meets burial’ … ‘Jimmy Edgar meets the NWO theme song from WCW wrestling’ .. ‘Gorgoroth goes on a date with Patsy Cline’ & ‘Joe Cocker meets Black Dice’ .. I bravely decided to have a go at making a ‘Joe Cocker meets Black Dice’ track

Relatively unfamiliar with both artists i had to listen to some of there music online to get inspiration. I digged the chaotic stuff by Black Dice i heard but was not so keen on Joe Cocker. In the end (after one crash and loosing my song) What i came up with was more black dice vibe than Joe cocker vibe but towards the end you’l notice rod stuart’s guitar creep in and that was the best i could do to incorporate a kinda cocker vibe to it. Anyhow time to make some ‘steve hackett meets burial’ :-/

Mash Hits # 185 – Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t after you

I am drained of any pleasure as i sit in my chair hating the pop music i choose as my medium. I appreciate genuine weird music, outsider audio and horrible sounds, some people won’t even class this as music and most will flick though it searching for something to latch on to; a catchy hook, a brave new sound or something to arouse them sonically. Well you will find none of that here, a song that reflects my mood is all it is. Bland Noise derived mainly from the Spice Girls. Plunderphonics projects on this scale will make you make this after a while. over and out (00.55, 27/09/2012)

Mash Hits # 184 – Matabiau no magic

I am sitting on the stained carpeted floor of a 1970′s french sncf train on my way home after two week working holiday in the uk. I am sapping power from the powerpoint i found in carriage number six, i am uncomfortable and a tad annoyed that the last song i spent two hours writing crashed and wont open. It was a melodic mash hit inspired by boards of canada’s first LP. But steam on with something new i said in my brain and don’t let bad shit make more bad shit make magic not bad shit. I made this Status Quo remix with AMT in mind, one of my fav bands of all time. Bay City Rollers sampled turned into a useable siren and the band Mud added a kinda vocal vibe i was looking for .. looks like 1975 just got picked at. Magic. Can’t wait to get home

Mash Hits # 183 – Nicoles

So i made this pretty little song from the two remaining Nicole’s in my #1 folder. To make it i sampled a small bit of each song and made it into two basic synths and played some notes in on a midi keyboard. I also used a arpeggiator and space echo on the to get the sound i wanted.
