Mash Hits # 283 – The new furtado story
This is a song created from two number ones released over three decades apart. I sampled the drum’s from George McCrae’s ‘Rock Your Baby’ which was one of the first hit record’s to use a drum machine. Nelly furtado is on vocals and she also has been turned into an arpeggiated synthesizer by sampling a tiny winy bit of ‘Give It To Me’ and looping it so it became a tone. The track title comes from a vague memory of the music from computer game ‘The New Zealand story’ .. listening to the game’s music on youtube i realise that my song sounds nothing like it but i liked the track name so stuck with it.

Mash Hits # 282 – Will.i.am.remixing.you
The song i reworked for the 282nd mash hit is shit. It’s structure predictable and generic, it’s chord sequences are plagiarized from another song, which was plagiarized from another before that and another song before that most probably. The sound is horrible, everything i have grown to hate when doing this project. Seriously having to work alongside the modern obsession the making of music that
the demographics is horrible, give me sun-ra anyday. This really grates on me too : A band meets a rapper meets comercial electro trance dance. I have even encountered some tracks that mix euphoric trance with acoustic guitars. This is a soundclash that isn’t that inviting to me. Urghh got sick in my mouth
Hall Of Fame is music as a product, music that when the PR people push down our throats, and people stupid enough to believe it’s worth, turns magically into cash, making the dicky middle men, who have no creative prowess, a pretty penny. As far as a visual image that the music conjures up, All I see is Hollyoaks and Military personal. And another thing, who wrote these lyrics? they are soooo obnoxiously motivational in the most boring way. It’s like it’s written by a career guidance councilor after three cans of relentless.
My remix is Mogwai esq. Distorted drawn out emo ambience. It is music as an experience. It generates no cash whatsoever.

Mash Hits # 280 – Spirit in Busted
I woke up with a stupid idea in my head this morning. Could i turn this shoddy (double a side – yes i use them too) track from pop punksters BUSTED into a great track by demonic trash metalers SLAYER. I started off by finding the midi fie for the slayer song ‘Spirit in Black’ i then sped the busted song as far as it could go until it was just a 1 second noise. I then loaded this noise into my samplers and used it as the basis of each midi instrument. Then i made a cheap drum kit out of the same 1 second noise.
And bobs your uncle! It worked! .. it’s now unrecognizable as BUSTED & instantly recognisable as SLAYER. Time to turn NE-YO into BEETHOVEN.

Mash Hits # 277 – Echoing Star
Lee Marvin’s ‘Wand’rin’ Star’ has been sitting in my #1′s folder for a long time, I always knew that i wanted to do something sympathetic to it’s natural echoey sound. So for this rework i treated it with echo, reverb and delay effects forcing it to have an even more ‘cowboy smoking a bong’ sound. Wand’rin’ Star was originally made for the stage musical Paint Your Wagon in 1951. This was later made into a movie in 1969.
